Asher turned 2 weeks old this past Friday. I can't believe he's 2 weeks old already! Technically he's 2 weeks and 3 days old today.
Friday was a rough day with them. Brooke was extra cranky and demanding and Asher only wanted to be held and didn't sleep well. William worked in Illinois that day so he had to leave early which meant I didn't get a shower that morning. Trying to take a shower with 2 cranky children is something I don't want to do again :-)
We celebrated his due date (Oct 22) by going to the pumpkin patch. Asher slept in the moby wrap the whole time while Brooke, William and I walked around looking for the perfect pumpkins for them. Brooke didn't like that they were dirty, but loved finding a bug on one of the pumpkins. Brooke had a blast at the pumpkin patch. She's excited to get to ride the horse next year. Hopefully we'll get to pick apples next year too. Brooke had another rough day. That evening we went over to William's parents' house to visit...mostly so his dad could see Asher again. We were there for about 3 hours and his dad held him for at least 2 of those hours!
On a positive note Brooke has been sleeping great at night lately.
Sunday was full of chores and football. Brooke was a handful again. She told William several times that day that she didn't feel well. She has a top molar cutting through the gums. Hopefully that's all that's bothering her. Tylenol seems o be helping. Asher spent most of the day napping on William. He did take a nap in the moby wrap while I vacuumed and put 4 loads of laundry away (yes I've been procrastinating on putting laundry away...taking a nap when Brooke does always sounds better than chores :-) )
Today (Monday) started early. Asher didn't sleep well last night. William was able to get him to sleep with him for a couple of hours. This morning we had his 2 week check up. He weighs 8 lbs 10 oz. That's 3 ozs over his birth weight, 1 lb over his weight when we left the hospital 15 days ago, and 13 ozs over his weight 2 weeks ago. After that we went to WIC to add Asher. Now we're home and it's about time for naps. After naps we'll go to Kroger and put gas in the van.

how i met your mother
the first 2 weeks
i can't believe asher is 2 weeks old already! so i don't forget anything i want to take the last few minutes of nap time to write down the events since asher was born.
day 1 friday october 7th
asher was born at 10:12ish am at home in the master bathroom. but let's back up first...the day started around 3:30 when brooke came into our room because she had puked all over her bed. around 4:30 i started noticing what i thought might be contractions, but i wasn't sure if they were real or not. i figured it was just from laying on my back or i needed to poop or i was dehydrated or i was still stressed from the day before (max fell off brooke's bed and broke his leg). at 6:30 i was still having contractions so i decided to take a bath. brooke woke up and insisted on taking a bath with me. we took a bath for a bit, but it didn't help the contractions. i managed to put my jammies back on and get a diaper on brooke. then i got a drink of water and some cereal. i sat in bed till william left for work and then timed my contractions for a bit. they were about 7 minutes a part, but i still thought i just had to poop. i tried to poop and had no luck, but i did notice a bit of a bloody show or my plug when i wiped. i called my dr's office. brooke insisted on painting (she's really into watercolors laterly). the nurse said to come in to l&d to get checked. since i couldn't bring brooke with i called william and told him to come home (he had just gotten to work in bloomington this was around 8:45am). not long after that i called him back because i was finally convinced i was really in labor. he called him mom (she was at a homeschool co-op in shelbyville) to have her come watch brooke so we could go to the hospital. i started to get bags packed for the hosptial. contractions were 3-5 minutes a part. i needed to pack shower things so i figured i should take a shower first. once i got in the shower the contractions were on top of eachother. i managed to get washed up. brooke came in the bathroom between contractions to make sure i was ok. i would give her a hug and let her know i was going to get loud again and she'd run out. (smoke was in the crate in our room...howling quite loudly) i wasn't able to get dressed and i ended up sitting on the toilet. william called not too long before asher was born to see how everything was going. we didn't talk long because the contractions were very intense. after i got off the phone when him i tried to get up to get dressed since his mom would be there soon. i made out to just outside the bathroom, dropped to my hands and knees with another contraction. i felt more pressure. i made it back onto the toilet and a couple minutes later asher was born. when he came out i thought my water had broken. the tiny baby butt staring up at me in the toilet said otherwise. i quickly scooped him up (he cried as soon as he was born) and called 911. brooke was in there watching the whole time. i gave 911 all my info and they told me to wrap asher up in a towel. i got off the phone with them and called william. i was kind of speechless so i said something like "do you hear that?" (asher was screaming in the background). then it hit william that i had given birth at home with just brooke there. i got off the phone with him with the emts got there. (william was at 37 and 465 when i called. he called his mom to let her know and tried calling my dad since he was on his way to the house to drop off a late baby shower gift) the emts (along with several cops and firefighters) were there about 5 minutes later. all the doors were locked so they had to break in using the front door (they said our house is very well protected and they were scared of smoke). i was trying to comfort brooke while the emts were taking care of me and asher (we were still on the toilet). william's mom got there a minute or 2 after the emts and my dad a few minutes after that. we waited in the ambulance for about 5 minutes so william could ride to the hospital with us. pushing out a plecenta on a bumpy ride in the back of an ambulance isn't easy ps. my stepmom beat us to the hospital which was great because we didn't bring the camera so she was able to take pictures. when my dr got there she said she was just getting ready to have someone call me because i hadn't come in yet. surprise! a nurse took asher to do all the new baby things (in the same room) while i got stitched up. i was able to walk to the bathroom without help (i took 3 nurses to get me to the bathoom after brooke was born because i still couldn't feel one of my legs). asher's blood sugar was a bit low so i breastfeed him after i had a snack. they checked his sugar a bit later and it was high enough. once i got admitted they were ablee to take us up to recovery. my stepmom left soon after to go back to work. i was able to brush my teeth and have lunch before david and laura came to visit. they took william home around dinner time. i was able to talk to my mom on the phone for awhile. william got our bags packed, helped my dad fix the front door, and brought brooke up to visit around 8pm or so and stayed till at least 10pm. brooke loved holding asher! and she was in a pretty good mood despite having a cold and the eventful morning (she wouldn't go in the bathroom at all friday, but did the next day). asher kept spitting up a lot that night so i has him sleep in the nursery some. i loved my overnight nurse!
asher was 8 lbs 7ozs (50-75%) 21 inches long (90%) and his head circumfrence was 13.5 inches (25%).
day 2 saturday october 8th
i was able to take a shower while asher was in the nursery. i saw my dr, had breakfast, and set my ff lineup while waiting for william and brooke to get to the hospital. william learned how hard it is to get out of the house in the morning with a toddler :-) they got there around 11 i think. my dad, stepmom, brother, and sister came to visit around 2. brooke had a blast playing with my sister. it was great seeing my dad hold asher. after they left jon, christine, and max came. angie got there soon after along with william's mom, dad, and brother. after all the visitors left (and brooke woke up from a nap...around 7pm maybe) we all had dinner together before william took brooke home for the night. asher spent part of the night in the nursery again because he kept spitting up.
day 3 sunday october 9th
william got to the hospital around 10. asher finally got circumcised. his weight dropped 9% (down to 7.10). i took a shower and got everything packed up. we left aound 1pm. asher slept the whole ride home. brooke was at home with william's mom and brother. william made lunch and we watched the colts game...well part of it because after lunch we laid brooke down for a nap and passed out on the couch for a few hours. asher slept well that night, but brooke had us up a few times.
day 4 monday october 10th
asher had his first visit with dr jen. she was amazed at the birth story. he gained 2 ozs. we go back in 2 weeks for his 2 week check up. brooke stayed at home and took a nap with william's mom and nevaeh. david and laura brought us a meal that evening.
day 5 tuesday october 11th
day 6 wednesday october 12th
christine brought us a meal. aimee morgan came by later and brought us another meal too.
day 7 thursday october 13th
my stepmom brought us a meal with my brother and sister. william's grandparents came to visit. later we all went to walmart and petsmart. brooke got another fish.
day 8 friday october 14th
asher is 1 week old! rex brought us a meal.
day 9 saturday october 15th
biz brought us little ceasers for dinner.
day 10 sunday october 16th
asher got to watch his second colts game. i am still undefeated in ff :-)
day 11 monday october 17th
william went back to work today so it's my first day alone with both kids. the morning was a bit rough. we are not a morning family :-) i managed to get ready (shower and make up!), bathe brooke, make william's lunch, get asher dressed, and make our bed before heading off to WIC. it only took 3 hours. i put asher in the moby wrap and had brooke walk. they both were the most well-behaved kids there this morning. asher didn't cry too much in the car and brooke didn't mind sitting on the opposite side of the van. brooke was in a much better mood than this morning. we had lunch/breakfast, watched the "dog movie", and i finished the grocery list. after naps i'm taking both kids to the grocery store since it's supposed to rain tomorrow. we have 3 stores to go to...hopefully it goes well. the grocery stores went great! we only went to 2 though. i grilled hamburgers and hot dogs for dinner...while breastfeeding asher.
day 12 tuesday october 18th
sandi came over to help for a couple hours. i took the kids to target...it did not go well..brooke wouldn't ride in the cart (and she picked out the super long one), asher was hungry and spit up, brooke kept running off, and she wasn't listening.
day 13 wednesday october 19th
asher has me up from 3-6am. brooke woke up right after he went to sleep. sandi came over to help for a couple hours. a lady from trinity brought us a meal.
day 14 thursday october 20th
i took the kids to once upon a child (asher is too tiny for most of his clothes) and walmart. it was my first time feeding him in the back of the van. some lady at walmart thought i was wearing a stuffed animal (i was wearing asher and he had his owl hat on). we went to the porch for the first time since asher was born. brooke loved playing upstairs with her neighbors. i made a yummy chicken/tomato/onion/garlic pizza.
day 15 friday october 21st
asher is 2 weeks old! asher is sleeping well at night, but he sleeps in bed with us. he wakes up 1-3 times at night to eat. he likes sitting in the bouncy seat and the swing, but the swing needs batteries. he sleeps great during the day in the boppy. he likes to curl up on his side in it. brooke has been extra whinny today and asher will only sleep when i'm holding him. william had to work in illinois today so i wasn't able to take a shower before he left. my goal is to take one before nap time...i have about 90 minutes till then. i have managed to unload, load, and run the dish washer and wash a load of our laundry and make our bed, make an appt to get asher registered, and make me and brooke breakfast (ok it was just cereal but i poured it while breastfeeding asher).
